The railway’s steadfast Hunslet ladies, Linda and Blanche, are 125 years old in 2018 and we are throwing a party!
Their centenary was marked in legendary style in 1993 with over a hundred siblings of all shapes and sizes coming to play. A lot has changed in their world since then with many more Hunslet restorations and repatriations, along with a few replicas to share the fun. Celebrations this time will be a little different but - with a full forty miles of railway - we still have the largest playground in the country for these enduring locomotives.
W.D. 4-6-0 1215 to star at Hunslet 125 - A locomotive type not seen running in the UK in fifty-six years will be one of the stars of the show at Hunslet 125 this coming June. 155 Locomotives were built by Hunslet for the war effort in a period of just over three years making them one of the most numerous narrow gauge types. After the war they saw further service all over the world. A few of the locomotives were used in the UK, none of which survived. Following the repatriation of locomotive No1215 from Australia, the War Office Locomotive Trust team have painstakingly rebuilt the locomotive including building a new boiler. The results of all this effort are simply amazing as you will be able to see first-hand at the Hunslet 125 event where locomotive 1215 will join 'Linda' and 'Blanche' as they celebrate their 125th birthday.
