The NCN Lon Las Cymru (North) route connects Llanidloes in the heart of Wales to Holyhead and Anglesey, using minor roads, railway paths, forestry tracks and ancient coach roads.
There are some tough challenges as the route crosses the range of the Cambrian Mountains and the Snowdonia National Park.
The route can be broken down into stages, most of which are about 25-40 miles long. You may wish to match these stages with each day's ride but this is only a suggestion: you may choose to do more than one stage per day or you may prefer to do a half day and take a break to visit some of the attractions along the way.
The stages start and finish in towns where there will be a reasonable choice of accommodation and refreshments.
Stage 1: Llanidloes to Machynlleth via Dylife (24 miles)
Stage 2: Machynlleth to Dolgellau via Tywyn and Mawddach Trail (36 miles)
Stage 2A: Machynlleth to Dolgellau via Corris (15 miles)
Stage 3: Dolgellau to Porthmadog via Barmouth (35 miles)
Stage 3A: Dolgellau to Porthmadog via Trawsfynydd ( 29 miles)
Stage 4: Porthmadog to Caernarfon (29 miles)
